Tibetan Brass or Bronze Guardian Lion Foo Dog Sculpture
This striking mid-century Tibetan guardian lion—often referred to as a Foo Dog—features a bold, stylized form cast in solid bronze or brass using traditional techniques. Standing 8 inches tall and 7.5 inches long, the sculpture is richly detailed with engraved accents, a fierce open mouth, and a coiled tail, all evoking protective symbolism common in Himalayan and Chinese ritual art.
The figure is a combination of hollow-bodied with solid detailing, and bears a warm golden-bronze patina with hints of reddish oxidation in recessed areas—typical of aged bronze. Likely produced between the 1940s and 1970s, this piece would have served as a symbolic protector in a temple, shrine, or domestic altar.
Dimensions: 3ʺW × 7.5ʺD × 8ʺH
Condition: Very good condition, some oxidation which adds positively to its patina.
