Antique Satsuma Porcelain Wisteria Motif Candle Holders - Pair
A beautifully matched pair of Japanese porcelain candlesticks featuring delicate hand-painted wisteria vines and serene landscape scenes. Finished with a gold gilt rim and traditional crackle glaze. Signed on the base with a Japanese character mark “Kotobuki” - Longevity or Congratulations - Added over the maker mark of Koshida. These were often given as a wedding gift which explains the added marking. There is also a red squiggle mark that translates to “71” which would be the individual maker’s signature. These date from the Taisho period 1912-1926.
Dimensions: 3.75ʺW × 3.75ʺD × 4ʺH
Country of origin: Japan
Condition: Close up picture of the base, shows the only flaw to the finish I could find. It is a very tiny loss of one crackle, around 1/16th in. Crackling itself is not a flaw but a purposeful part of the artform. Normal scuffs to bottom. Gold gilding has shows minor wear, please see close up photos of decoration.
