Antique Japanese Usubata Tripod Bronze Vase

$295.00 USD

A finely cast antique bronze vase featuring a tripod base and boldly stylized handles. Originally, this vessel would have a second removable part fitted to sit on top with a smaller hole to hold only a few floral stems.  Crafted to be the base for the traditional Japanese art of Ikebana. (This listing is for the base only)

This substantial vessel was crafted using traditional foundry techniques as noted with the sandy interior surface texture and color variation, with separately cast and rivet-secured handles—an indication of artisan-level craftsmanship. The patinated bronze surface presents a deep, warm tone with subtle age-related variation. Please note patina variation in the last 2 photos  -  appears as natural occurrence in crafting the piece rather than damage occurring later. It is entirely smooth with no surface texture interruptions.

In normal lighting appears almost black and under direct light has a deep brown patina.

The classical silhouette and elegant proportions suggest late 19th to early 20th century origin, with stylistic influences that may reflect Japanese Meiji or European neoclassical design.

Unmarked; likely workshop production circa 1880–1920

Dimensions: 6"D x 8"H

Condition: Variation in patina on one side, notated in photograph. Minor scuffing on the widest part of the shape. Wear of patina on the edges which highlight the brassier tone of the bronze.
